A cure for blindness

Superstition from medieval Europe: supposedly a blind person could be cured if a black cat’s head was burned, turned into a powder and blown into the eyes of the blind person three times a day.

Unlike the last item, this rather foolish theory could be proved—or, rather, disproved. No doubt some people did try it, and we can only hope they used the head of a black cat that had already died.
