Tattooing is obviously trendy among humans and is becoming trendy among pets too, but not for reasons of personal adornment or social conformity. For ID purposes, a veterinarian or animal shelter can tattoo a number onto your cat’s ear or elsewhere, a number that can be used to identify the cat if she is lost. Some animal shelters now make it a standard practice to tattoo all cats and dogs given up for adoption.
