As noted, kittens are born both blind and deaf. So which comes first, hearing or seeing? The average kitten’s eyes open in about a week—the range is usually from six to twelve days. However, the ability to hear is evident about a day or two earlier. Prior to both hearing and seeing, the helpless creatures sense the world primarily through smell and touch.
