Dogs linger, cats don’t

Most vets will tell you that older cats don’t linger for years the way older dogs do. There are exceptions, of course, but generally when a cat’s health starts to slide because of age, she won’t be around for much longer. This is especially true of outside cats, who seem to be able to sense that they are about to die and so wander off to a secluded place to “die with dignity.”
