Most cat owners aren’t going to give up using scoopable litter, but there are some potential hazards (or so the rumor goes). Critics of scoopable litter say that sodium bentonite, the ingredient that gives litter its clumping quality, can cause problems if it enters a cat’s lungs or
digestive system. Every advance has its downside, and probably in the future there will be a “new and improved” litter that poses fewer health risks for cats.
