Some owners are disturbed by watching their pet stalk and kill something, but in fact cats are natural predators, and their technique is poetry in motion. A hunting cat keeps low to the ground and uses a natural cover (such as plants) for concealment. The closer to the prey, the slower the cat advances.
When lying in wait, only the tip of the tail moves. Cats are good judges of distance, leaping to attack when they know they can reach the prey in two or three bounds. They rarely miss their target, of course.
